Here is our story, I call it “Love through the Miles”
I am originally from Pittsburgh and recently moved to Cincinnati to purse a career as a pediatric hematology/oncology registered nurse at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital following graduation from college.

I trained with the Bob Ronker’s group after hearing a lot of great things about them and completed the Flying Pig Half Marathon in the spring of 2009. I was so excited that I decided to train again in the fall for the 2009 Bank of America Marathon in Chicago with the group.
In the mean time, Joe Gast was born and raised in Cincinnati and was working as an IT consultant for a local company in Evendale. He began his running career with Bob Ronker’s and recently was training again with the group for his second marathon in Columbus. Little did we know how our love for running would change our lives forever.

Joe and I met each other while I was out for an evening run in July with my dog named Libby. Libby ran immediately up to him and we began talking about running. Joe and I realized we were both training for the fall marathons together in the group. Shortly there after, Joe and I began going to the group together, running on our off days together and spending a lot of extra time hanging out.

After many attempts of asking me out, Joe and I began officially dating in the fall of 2009 (ironically after the Steeler vs Bengals game) and he decided to “pop the question” in November of 2010.
Our engagement plan went completely wrong according to Joe due to timing of events (wrong night of the downtown Christmas Tree lighting) and good friends who suddenly had a family emergency and couldn’t make the trip down to help us celebrate.
However he ended up on one knee in the back of the Montgomery Inn Boathouse (our favorite restaurant) by the “pseudo” ice skating rink which we were discussing earlier. I was sure it wasn’t there but he insisted it was. We now refer to it as the “synthetic” ice skating rink aka an empty looking parking lot.
Joe bought me the most beautiful ring that I could imagine and it truly was a moment to remember for the both of us.
We recently got married on Oct 14,2011 which was Joe’s Birthday and we had a complete blast! We have never been happier and feel very blessed that we both met while training in the group together. We still debate whether our future children will bleed black and gold or black and orange, but trust me there will be no black and orange on my kids!!!
Sincerely,
Jill
