Our Engagement Story – Stacy & Shawn

“It all started back on October 18, 2014, when Shawn and I decided to go to a mutual friend’s housewarming party. I came with two of my good friends, one of which Shawn knew from college.  Standing around in a circle talking, we found out both of us were Jewish (a big bonus for our Jewish mothers!)  Everybody stayed at the party for a couple of hours and then several people left to go see my friend’s band play at a nearby bar. While at the bar, Shawn started talking to me.”

“We found out we had family members in the same cities (Atlanta, Cincinnati, and Nashville).  In addition, we both just happened to be going to the Renaissance Festival the next day.  So, Shawn was smooth and decided to ask me for my phone number to see if I wanted to try to meet up at the festival the next day.  I gave him my number without thinking twice.

“The next day we met up at the Renaissance Festival and texted all day long.  In fact, we texted for over a week before Shawn got the nerve to finally ask me out.  Our first date happened a week and one day later.  We watched The Neighbors over at his place.  From that first date on we were inseparable.”

“After about two weeks of dating and talking, my wallet was stolen at work.  During the whole ordeal, Shawn was nothing less than perfect!  He made sure I was okay, had his sister drive me home (we both worked a mile apart), and comforted me.  Shawn even spent the next day waiting at the DMV for over 2 hours with me, only to find out that without proof of an Ohio license, Virginia would not issue a license. I knew at that point Shawn was something special and that he would always be there for me.”

“As Shawn has shared with me, from the moment he met me he was intrigued.  I mean, come on, I am amazing!  Really, Shawn knew I was something amazing. All of his friends and family liked me and I was easy to get along with.  For Shawn’s 30th birthday, I threw him a surprise party with a lot of his friends.  He was alreay in love with me, but his birthday sealed the deal!”

“Fast forward a little over a year to Thanksgiving Day 2015.  Shawn had always talked about wanting to go downtown and take a tour of Cincinnati.  I did not think twice.  Being the person I am, I ironically asked my brother and his girlfriend to join us on the field trip.”

“Shawn had done his research and wanted to go down to Smale Riverfront Park at The Banks.  We walked around the park for a bit and did the different activities the park had to offer.  Then we were sitting on the swings when Shawn decided he wanted to go down by the river to go for a walk. “

“I had no idea what was happening. I was more fixated on why Shawn was leaving his jacket behind.  Shawn began talking about how happy he was and next thing I knew, Shawn was down on one knee!  In fact, I was so surprised it took me awhile to say “YES!”

“I cried and the moment was all a blur.  Shawn had made all my dreams come true! Our Cincinnati wedding is planned for May of 2017.”
