Alex and I met through a mutual friend in college.

We both attend University of Cincinnati and are both in the Criminal Justice Bachelor program.  A friend of mine worked with him down at Coney Island in the security department and thought that we would be a great match.  He set us up on a blind date at Kings Islands Halloween Haunt.

Though he was incredibly shy at first we definitely hit it off and had a blast there together.  He was too shy to get my phone number that night, but I asked our friend for it the next day.  The rest is history! 

We dated for 5 months before we both knew that we were meant to be together.  I had told him not to give me a ring until the end of summer, when it was around our anniversary, but he said that he couldn’t wait that long.  When my friend first contacted me about going on a blind date with Alex, I didn’t want to.  I had just gotten out of a relationship a few months before and wasn’t looking for a new one.  Come to find out, he was in the same situation.

My mother always told me that “the one” would show up when I wasn’t looking for him.  She couldn’t have been more right!  I knew after a couple months that he was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

Because he worked security down at Coney Island along with some friends of mine that I had before I met him, we spent a lot of time down there.  We became very fond of that place, with lots of memories of our first dates.  I used to go down there on his late shifts and I would keep him company and we had a blast!  We even had a brick engraved that is by Sunlight Pool with our names and the date that we started dating.

One night we were relaxing on the couch when he jumped up and said that he would like to take me somewhere really quick.  I was opposed to going anywhere because I wanted to stay home and just relax but he talked me into it.  He wouldn’t tell me where we were going or what we were doing but he asked me to put a blind fold on. So in the middle of the night we climbed into the car, but I refused to put on a blind fold because I was a little irritated that he was dragging me out in the cold March weather in the middle of the night.
While we were on our way, he had to pull over because he blew a tire!
While he was out changing the tire, someone drove past us and threw an empty beer can at him!  What a night he was having!  We final pulled up to Coney Island and the whole front was completely lit up and looked so beautiful.
He asked me to get out of the car and I saw my two friends waiting there for us, one with a camera recording.  I was so confused, but as soon as I saw Alex drop down to one knee I was so happy!  He presented me with the most beautiful ring!

Because we both have Criminal Justice degrees we have a lot in common.  While most couples play the “one headlight” game in the car, we play a game where we spot vehicle violations!

Since Alex is a police officer he has taught me a lot more that I didn’t know, and I think one of these days I’m going to beat him! No one else would understand or think it was fun, but we do!   We have a passion for guns and go shooting often.

I never felt fully complete before I met my soul mate, Alexander.

Well, we have one of those destiny stories. All a little cheesy… but bear with me.

During the summer of 2009 my friends and I would always go to this mexican restaurant, Fiesta Brava on Fields Ertyl, every Thursday. One night we were there, being particularly loud and obnoxious and there was a group two tables down. One of the guys was on his way to the bathroom and we stopped him and got a picture with him. Just to be funny. I thought he was kinda cute. We went on with our evening and never spoke again.

A few weeks later my friend Julie said that she was bringing her nephew into the bar I worked at because it was his 21st birthday!! The other bartender and I were excited and all for showing this kid a great birthday. He and a friend came and we met.
I didn’t really think too much of him, for I was a bartender, and Ii can’t focus on every guy that walks in.
Well, long story short, This particular guy got a little intoxicated and he was bold enough to ask for my number. For whatever reason I gave it to him. He apparently wrote his number down for me as well. The night ended.

The next day, in his drunken stuper he discovered he had LOST my number. He was super bummed and knew that I would never call him. Now, personally I don’t remember saving his number on purpose, or even thinking about him. But I did. I texted him the next day and asked how he was feeling.

For about a week, we texted a bit. I was not looking for anything serious. I was posting some pictures on facebook one day and I put on the picture taken at the bar that night with his random guy…. whom now looked verrrryyyy familiar. I texted him and asked if he had been to that mexican place and yadda yadda. … told him I think he was in my picture, and turns out it was him!!!

So, really we had met twice, and this guy just grew and grew on me…. until I fell in love.

I think the first week of us “dating” I got VERY sick. Basically a bad bad flu. But this new guy (Cory) came over every day and brought me soup and sat on the couch with me and let me cuddle on him. He rubbed my feet and we talked and talked. Im almost glad that we started out that way. And I must say I was very shocked and happy that I was so comfortable with him right off the bat. 

Cory told me that he loved me pretty early on in the relationship. However, I was still a little on guard, I was hurt very badly in a previous relationsip. But, as time went on and we became more and more fond of each other, I began to have the “love” feeling. My birthday is in November, and in 2009 my mom brought me to a Bengals game. We ended up having one extra ticket and instead of calling a girlfriend, I knew exactly who I wanted to be there with me. It was Cory. He came and we had a great time. At one point during the game, I looked at him and it couldn’t stay in my mouth any longer!! “I LOVE YOU!!” I shouted (we WERE at a football game!!) and its been that way ever since. So now we have a soft spot for when the Bengals play the Ravens!

In the summer of 2010 Cory and I went on a trip to Destin Florida with his family. The trip was great, had a nice relaxing time. The thing I didn’t know, was that Cory was hiding a diamond ring from me the whole time. I later found out he had it in his bag, in his shoe, in a cousins guitar case, everywhere! To keep it hidden from me.

One night he asked if I wanted to go down to the beach and hunt for sand crabs. We did. As we were walking along the beach, he asked if I loved him, distracted becasue I was looking for crabs, I responded “yes babe” (a little snippy, oops). He then asked if I loved him enough to marry him, and got down on one knee in the sand. I naturally began to cry like a baby!! After a few words and lots of tears later I said yes. The next morning we went to his grandparents condo I got to show my gorgeous ring off!! It was a great vacation!!

We have learned so much about each other in the almost 3 years since we’ve know each other. The good, the bad and the ugly. But we are a team that cant be torn apart. We have a strong bond and I am so happy to be marrying my best friend.

• Talk to fiancé about what her the guys will wear.

• Submit a shot list to your photographer.

2 months

• Discuss the ceremony readings and songs with the officiant.
• Check your state’s requirements for a marriage license.
• Order or make the favors.
• Do a hair-and-makeup trial.
• Choose your accessories (shoes, jewelry).

6 weeks

• Print the programs.
• Buy gifts for the wedding party.
• Write the vows and have your officiant approve them.
• Send the wedding announcement to newspapers.

 2 weeks

• Go for the final dress fitting.
• Get the marriage license.
• Submit the DJ/band playlist.
• Assemble the favors and programs.
• Make sure the gift registry still has plenty of options.
• Write the rehearsal dinner speeches.

 1 week

• Pick up your dress.
• Confirm the vendor details.
• Give the ceremony readings to those who will be doing them.
• Submit a final guest count to your caterer.
• Pack for the honeymoon.
• Write out the seating and place cards.
• Break in your shoes by wearing them around the house.

 1 day

• Put the wedding-day tips in envelopes.
• Reconfirm all pickup times and locations.
• Go for a manicure and pedicure
• Hold the rehearsal and dinner.

 Wedding Day

• Eat small and light meals.
• Do your hair and makeup.
• Get dressed 30 minutes before the photographer’s arrival
• Knock ‘em dead!

Start by building a list of several wedding photographers. Asking friends and relatives for recommendations is a great way to begin. People who’ve had positive experiences with photographers are always happy to share their photographers names with you, and when you meet with the photographer, you’ll both have an immediate frame of reference from which to proceed.

Visit bridal show

Although there are so many vendors and it may be a bit overwhelming, as you visit photographers whose work and personalities you like, take their literature and mark on the ones that interest you so that you can refer to them later.  Some of the best photographers showcase at bridal shows and it’s a great place to add to your list of possible.

Visit websites

Visit each photographer’s website. Carefully the portfolios. Try to concentrate on photos and not on website design. Today anyone can get a beautiful template flash website for a few hundred bucks. Good photographers usually show plenty of their recent work online including full weddings – you will save time by pre-qualifying photographers who have comprehensive online portfolio for possible meeting. Create a list of those photographers. Most important is – see if photographer’s work looks appealing to you, if you can feel the “click”.

Phone interview

Call or email each photographer on your list. A quick phone call or short email will give you a number of key pieces of information, such as the photographer’s availability on your wedding day, type of photography specialties (e.g., candid, traditional, photojournalism, combination, film or digital, etc.), and a rough idea as to how much they’ll charge you and what you’ll receive for that fee. It will also tell you a bit about the photographer’s personality. Remember, this person will be an integral part of the most important day of your life, so be sure you choose someone you feel good about.

Make appointments

Make appointments with the photographers who sound promising so you can view their portfolios and discuss details. These meetings should include both the bride and groom as well as the bride’s parents, and anyone else who will either be paying for the work or working closely with the photographer. Write down all your questions before you meet, and take notes during the meetings.

Getting Specific

The more questions you ask up front, the more confident and relaxed you’ll feel on and after your wedding day. If in doubt, ask! And remember, there is no such thing as a dumb question!

Here are some questions you may consider to ask:

How will you show me pictures for selection (e.g., electronic, proofs, contact sheets, online gallery, etc.)? Will you help me choose the final pictures? How will you make it easy for friends and family to order reprints? What are the costs of the various levels of coverage? Are there different degrees of coverage? What is your photography style; photojournalistic, traditional, mixed, etc.,? How much for the duplicate prints, albums, folios, enlargements, thank you cards, etc.,? What’s your time frame for preparing the pictures for my selection? How about engagement session? How long do I have to make up my mind as to which pictures I want and how many? How long have you been in business? What kind of guarantee comes with my hiring you? What’s your philosophy to photographing weddings? Will you have an assistant? Do you have travel fees? How much is your overtime fee? What do you plan to do at my wedding to make my wedding photographs unique and personal to me? Do you have a backup? Will you be shooting my pictures personally? Will you use film or digital? Who will I be dealing with after the wedding? What’s your payment policy? Do you give any guarantees on your services and photographs? What is the possibility of the pictures fading?

There is huge number of possible questions you can ask your photographer. Most professional photographers will provide you with clear explanations about their services prior to any questions even asked. Many of them have full packages that include certain number of prints, digital files, enlargements, etc., so it is very clear what level of service and final products you should expect.

When you’ve narrowed your list to one or two photographers, ask each of them to show you complete coverage of a single wedding. This will give you a much better idea as to what you can expect than a collection of the best shots from several different weddings. Consider whether the photographer successfully captures individual characteristics and personalities. Do the pictures capture people’s feelings, or are they just pictures of people standing around looking self-conscious. Do they look natural?

Prepare to make a commitment

At this stage, if you’ve taken the time to ask good questions, you’ll know whether this photographer is for you. By now you’ve probably spent a good deal of time communicating with your photographer. Keep in mind that photographers are trained professionals and that they deserve to be treated as such. Go to your meeting prepared to leave a deposit to reserve the date. Before you do, however, you may want to assure yourself of a few more last-minute details. Ask about the photographer’s policy for wedding-date changes and what happens if he/she is not available on the alternate date. Ask about their policy for an unforeseen cancellation. If the photographer is right for you, if the photographer is available, and if you’re convinced that it’s worth the price, then make the commitment and relax; this is undoubtedly one of the best and most intelligent decisions you’ve made in planning your wedding.
