– J.D. and I first met in May of 2012 when we were both working for the same company in Cincinnati at the time. I had just transitioned departments and remember being introduced to J.D. the very first day that I was in my new role. Little did I know that we would end up developing such a close friendship with each other, and that it would eventually lead to our first date on December 7th of that same year.
– We dated about 3 1/2 years before J.D. proposed.
– Honestly, as cliché as it may sound…I knew that J.D. was “the one” within just a few weeks of us dating! From the moment we met, J.D. and I had hit it off right away and as I mentioned earlier, we developed an extremely close friendship with one another that obviously led us to where we are today! After about 6 months into our friendship, J.D. and I went on our first date in December of 2012 and it was probably the best first date anyone could ever ask for. We already knew so much about one another and were comfortable in being ourselves around each other that it just made everything feel “right” with him and “us” as a couple from that point on. It was easy for me to see that he was “the one” that I loved unconditionally and wanted to spend the rest of my life with.
– J.D. had recently accepted a promotion with his company and his new position required him to move from Cincinnati to Columbus so he could work from his company’s World Headquarters. As a couple, we had a lot to discuss with each other when he was offered the new position because at that time we had been living together in Cincinnati for about a year and a half and had been dating almost 3 ½ years, and this promotion would be affecting both of our lives and careers. Thankfully, my company has an office in Columbus and they approved my request to transfer offices so that I could continue my career with them, and move to Columbus with J.D.
After about 2 months of living in our new Columbus apartment and knowing that J.D. was traveling a lot more with his new position, I decided to order his birthday gift a few months before his actual birthday because I knew it was something he really needed and would be using almost weekly with his new job. So in May, I decided to order a new 3-piece luggage set for him and was planning to hide it in one of our apartment closets until his actual birthday that’s in August. However, not thinking about how big the luggage set would really be (because I ordered it online), it turned out that once it delivered there was no way that I could hide it from him in our apartment for 3 months! It also didn’t help that J.D. was home when it delivered and kept asking me what it was that I ordered. There was no hiding it from him at this point. So later that night, I had explained to him that I WAS planning to hide his birthday present from him in one of our closets until his actual birthday as a surprise, but it just didn’t make sense to try to hide it anymore and that if he wanted he could open it early because it was something he would get a lot of use from especially during his busiest time of the year at work. He decided to take me up on my offer, and opened up his present right then.
J.D. was so grateful for the new luggage set…much more than I thought anyone could be for getting a luggage set! Well then he started laughing to himself and when I asked what was so funny, he told me that he wanted to show me something in our spare bedroom and asked me to follow him in there. So at this point I’m thinking what the heck does he have to show me that’s so funny?
As I follow him into our spare bedroom, he turns to me and says “speaking of hiding gifts from each other in our apartment closets, I have something that I’ve been hiding from you.” He then opens up the closet door and pulls something down from the very top shelf of the closet. It was at that moment when he turned back to me from pulling the bag down I realized what he had been hiding! J.D. pulled a ring box out of the bag he was hiding from me and right then and there he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Like most girls, I was immediately overwhelmed and flooded with emotions and started smiling, shaking and crying all at the same time! I could not believe that this was really happening and that I was going to marry my best friend!
After I pulled my emotional self together and said “YES!”, J.D. then starts telling me how he actually had the ring hidden in our closet for an entire month!! He said that he didn’t propose sooner only because he had been trying to come up with the “perfect proposal”. But, when I gave him his birthday gift earlier that night, he said that it hit him that THIS was that perfect moment for US that he was waiting for. He had no doubts that it was the right time and place for him to finally ask me to be his wife, and I wouldn’t have wanted him to ask me any other way!!
Our wedding will be next July and we’re excited to be using Ron Shuller for photography, Video & Photo-Booth.”
